Window Strikes: Why Birds Hit Glass and How You Can Stop It
Each year, millions of birds are injured or killed after colliding with windows, making window strikes one of the leading human-caused threats to birds. In this webinar, we will break down why birds cannot see glass, what makes certain homes and buildings especially dangerous, and which species are most at risk.
Using real data and physical examples, we will show how window strikes happen and demonstrate proven, practical solutions that actually work. You will learn how simple changes such as window treatments, decals, spacing, and placement can dramatically reduce collisions at your home, school, or workplace.
This session is perfect for bird lovers, homeowners, educators, and anyone looking for easy, effective ways to protect birds where they live and fly.
Presenter
Audrie Wieber is a 2023 graduate of Shenandoah University with a degree in Environmental Studies. During her studies, she completed a project in collaboration with the BRWC that displayed different ways of protecting birds from window/building collisions. Audrie also had the opportunity to do an internship with our Education Department in the summer of 2022. Now, as a Front Office Coordinator at BRWC, she continues to not only see the effects of window strikes firsthand, but also offer advice to those seeking to prevent strikes at their own home.
